Hello!

The saying goes, “If you don’t like the weather here in New England, wait five minutes — it’ll change.” That’s never so true as during February! In the last week or so, we’ve seen temperatures well below 0, and we’ve seen 55 degrees. We’ve gone from deep snow pack to bare grass to ice to bare grass again. But we are looking forward to getting on the road again and heading toward what we hope is warmer weather. Though we have to admit, 55 degrees was pretty nice!

Before we hit the road, we’re headed over the hill on Saturday, February 16th to the Acworth, NH Town Hall for a fundraising event for the Acworth Village Store. The store has been in continuous operation for 150 years, but funds are tight at the store this winter. From 4-11pm, there will a silent auction, a potluck dinner, and music. We will be opening the event at 4pm. Come out to support this great community treasure, and help keep it operating for another 150 years!

The following week, we’re off to a new venue run by a familiar person. We were so disappointed when Robert Harper Books in RiverdalePark, MD closed its doors a while back, as it was a wonderfully quirky bookstore with a great vibe, and we had a ton of fun playing there. Now Robert has opened My Dead Aunt’s Books inside the Tanglewood Works in Hyattsville, MD, and he’s opening its doors to music. We’ll play there on Friday, February 22nd at 7:30pm, splitting the evening with Paint Branch Creek, a DC area Americana quintet. Looking forward to seeing the new shop!

While we’re out on the road, our friend Beth DeSombre is guest hosting the Serendipity Songwriter Showcase at the Serendipity Cafe in Maynard, MA on Wednesday, February 13th. Beth’s guest songwriters this month are Sean Ryder and Tammy Jann. The topic, as chosen by December’s audience, is “She’ll never say“. This month’s songwriters, including Beth, are all participating in February Album Writing Month (FAWM), where theyeach write 14 new songs in 28 days, so you are likely to hear a lot brand new songs this evening! Stop in, listen to some incredibly new original songs, eat tasty food, and help choose the song topic for March’s songwriters.

We’re excited that Dan’s song, Sleepy Town, has won fourth place in the American Songwriter Magazine’s March/April lyric contest! You can find all the winners and their lyrics here. And congratulations to our friend Dan Tappan, who received an Honorable Mention for his song, Thought I Knew.

A woman was born in Minnesota in 1890, and died in Florida at the age of 108. She was a journalist, an author, an environmentalist, and an activist. She’s credited with saving the Everglades from development. Her name was Marjory Stoneman Douglas. One year ago, at the Parkland, FL high school named in her honor, a gunman killed 17 students and staff members, and wounded 17 others. The survivors follow in Mrs. Douglas’ footsteps. Dan’s song, Footsteps, honors their activism.Please listen.
