Hello!
We’ve picked the last of the peaches and the first of the pears (though we haven’t actually eaten any of the pears yet, as they really aren’t ripe). We’ve picked up the last of our farm shares from the local organic farm whose produce we’ve been eating all summer. We’ve picked the last of the zucchinis from our two zucchini plants in the pots outside the door that we planted in lieu of an actual garden. We’ve eaten the last of the blackberries on our bushes. Such a wonderful blackberry season this year! And now we’re on the road. It’s been a great summer hanging around New England (give or take one or two brief forays beyond), but we’re looking forward to putting some miles on the new van.
No formal shows this month, but if you’ll be at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield KS anytime during September 13th through the 19th or at the Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (SWRFA) conference in Austin TX September 24-27, give us a shout! We would love to cross paths!
Twenty five years ago this week, tragedy struck Dan’s hometown of New York City. We spent the day tracking down family in NY and the Washington DC area (all safe, thankfully), only to discover that we had a friend on one of the planes. Tales from other friends of their experiences with the event and the aftermath, along with his memories of when the towers were first built prompted Dan to write Ghosts. We offer it to you in memory of all who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, and for the families and friends who survive them.
On a lighter note, since we’re just past Labor Day weekend, we bring you a song celebrating the power of union organization, and why it can be necessary. Here’s Dan’s song Dig A Hole.
