The Dream Journal – July 2026

Hello!

We’re recovering from some rather toasty temperatures here in the Northeast. Folks down south probably see 90° temperatures and high humidity a lot, and we’re seeing them more and more up here, but it’s still uncommon enough for us that it’s a big deal. We have the luxury of not needing to be outside in temperatures like that, but not everyone can say that. Late in the afternoon of the hottest day, the farmer up the road who hays our fields showed up with his tractor and cutter, and proceeded to cut the hay. Thankfully, modern cab tractors have air conditioning, so he wasn’t melting away out there. But it’s still a good reminder that there are folks who have no choice but to be out in the heat. We certainly feel for anyone whose job keeps them outside on days like that! Now we’ve got some lovely, cooling rain and are back into much more normal temperatures. The hay is baled and transported up to the farmer’s barn, and our hay fields are looking like they’re ready for the next round of growing.

This Wednesday, July 8th, we’re off to Intervale, NH where we’ll be joining our friend Marcia Taylor as part of the Green Curtain Road Show at the Ledge Brewing Company. The Road Show is amplifying the voices of old-growth forests through the transformational power of music, writing, and visual art. We’ll be part of the live performances, poetry, and prose, and we’ll hear about protecting New Hampshire’s old growth forests. We’ll be doing some collaboration with Marcia, which we’re looking forward to! The show runs 5:30-7:30pm.

We don’t usually advertise other folks’ shows, but there’s a great venue in Bellows Falls, VT called Stage 33 Live that has been supporting live local music in our area for a number of years now. On Sunday, July 19th, they’re hosting a show in their Local Curator Series, featuring the duo The Milkhouse Heaters and solo performer Phil Henry. Jan and Mike of the Milkhouse Heaters were among the first local musicians we met when we moved to New Hampshire, and we’ve become fast friends and fans of each other’s music. And Phil, another dear friend, is just a phenomenal songwriter and performer. Jan and Mike are normally volunteers at Stage 33 Live, but for their show, we’ll be filling their volunteer roles. Come hear some excellent Vermont songwriters in a cool local venue that’s worth supporting! Music starts at 7pm. Tickets are available online here for $15 up until midnight the day before the show, $20 at the door if it’s not sold out.

If you’re anywhere near Goshen, CT, you should come to the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival at the Goshen Fairgrounds Friday, July 24th through Sunday, July 26th! There’s music on 4 stages, plus late night song circles in the camping areas around the fairgrounds. We’ll be volunteering with the livestream crew again this year, and would love to cross paths with you if you’re going to be there!

Our albums Who We Are, Then and Now, Seeking, and Simple Grace are available from us at shows and on our website, through Bandcamp, or you can find them at iTunes and most other online music stores. Our music is also available streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.
