The Dream Journal – June 2023

Hello!

Things were quiet on the performance end for us in May, but we’ve still been busy! Two music conferences, a bunch of planning and tracking for our next album, and the garden is almost ready for planting. It may seem late for planting, but we had frost only a week or two ago. Which seems a bit crazy, given that we hit 90 degrees yesterday, but hey, that’s weather in New England! Our foxes have 3 young kits this year, the bluebirds have moved into at least one of the birdhouses, there’s been a lone coyote wandering down the driveway in the evenings, and a young black bear has been eating out of our neighbor’s bird feeders (which she has now wisely taken down).

One of the best things about the arrival of warm weather is the arrival of farmers market season! We kick off the season at the Peterborough Farmers Market in Peterborough, NH on Wednesday, June 14th. Farm produce, baked goods, food trucks, and music are a great combination. Bring a shopping bag, pick up ingredients for dinner, and enjoy some music! Rain or shine, the market runs 3-6pm.

We’re delighted to be back at the Acworth Music Fest at the Acworth Village Store in South Acworth, NH this year. Festival day is Saturday, June 17th. In addition to us, this year’s acts include Blue Collar Band, Best Revenge & Friends, Pointless Culture, Donnah In Flames, and more! Music runs 11am-dusk. Performance order hasn’t been finalized, but we expect to be on early in the day.

Back in 2010, musicians Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards got the idea to hike from town to town in Massachusetts bringing music to the towns they passed through. Since then, the Massachusetts Walking Tour has become an annual tradition, and over the years has included many different hikers and musicians, including us. This year, their “bipedal concert tour” is partnering with the grassroots organization Gateways to Nature, which celebrates green space within the towns of Holbrook, Abington, Whitman and Rockland, MA. You can join in with the walk during the day, or attend the concerts in the evening, or both. We’ll be opening for the walkers on the first day, Wednesday June 21st, for their show at the Holbrook Public Library in Holbrook, MA. Music starts at 6pm.

We end the month with a new venue! We’re doing a bandstand show at the Cape May County Park & Zoo in Cape May Court House, NJ on Saturday, June 24th at 2pm. The show is sponsored by the Cape May Court House Library. Entrance to the park is free, as is the concert. In case of bad weather, the show will move to the library.

In honor of Pride month (and every day), we celebrate, love and accept our LGBTQIA+ friends, and we vow to do what we can to make sure their rights are not erased. Through Faith’s song My Name Is George, we speak to audiences about the high rates of suicide attempts among trans youth who are not accepted and supported by their families.

Our albums Then and Now, Seeking, and Simple Grace are available from us on our website, through Bandcamp, or you can find them at iTunes and most other online music stores. Our music is also available streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.

As always, you can find additional schedule information on our website. For additional content and stories from the road, follow us on Patreon. For more frequent news updates and information, check out our Facebook fan page and follow us on Twitter (@danandfaith).

Good music can be found in many unexpected places. Keep your eyes — and ears — open!

The Dream Journal – April 2023

Hello!

We’re back home in New Hampshire after 6 weeks on the road. No fooling! We had some great shows, a very successful radio interview, and met up with a whole lot of friends. We had wild horses wander through our campsite at one campground, and a huge alligator wander through at another! We appear to have brought a little bit of warmth and a huge flock of robins home with us. Thankfully the alligator stayed in the Everglades! Though he did end up in a song that we’ll hopefully be working up soon.

The Midweek Song Swap is back! This coming Wednesday, April 5th, we are joined by fellow songwriter Phil Henry. Phil is an old-school storyteller who builds songs from a place of honesty, pairing moving lyrics with intricate guitar work that will knock your socks off. We’re looking forward to swapping songs with him! Find us online on Facebook or YouTube at 7:30pm Eastern time (23:30 UTC).

It’s a good month for swapping songs with excellent songwriters! On Friday, April 14th, we’ll head over to Lawrence, MA for the One Broadway Songwriters in the Round, where we’ll be sharing the stage with Rich Eilbert and Dan Tappan. We’ve known both Rich and Dan for years, and I think it’s safe to say there will be collaboration! One Broadway itself is out of commission while they recover from water damage (fire in a higher floor of the building), so the show will be held at Lawrence Community Access Television at 468 Essex St. You can see us in person or streamed online. The show runs 7-9:30pm Eastern time (23:00-01:30 UTC). Tickets for either the in-person show or for online access are $15 each, and can be purchased here. If you specify online access, you will receive the show link once your purchase is complete.

We don’t normally put open mics in our newsletter, but Open Mic America is a little different. It’s a nationwide open mic that celebrates both online and in-person open mics while it showcases the varied talent of musicians across the country. We’ll be playing it again on Sunday, April 16th starting at 8pm Eastern time (4/17 00:00 UTC). We don’t yet know who else will be on with us, and that’s part of the fun! Tune in via YouTube and hear 2 hours of great music from a number of musical genres.

Yesterday, March 31st, was the annual Transgender Day of Visibility. We have friends who are trans, and we have friends who have trans kids. We love them all, and are heartsick over the moves in various states across the US to curtail their rights, take away gender-affirming health care, and generally vilify these people who just want to live their lives as their true selves. We stand with them and stand up for them whenever possible. With love, support, and acceptance to our transgender friends, we offer Faith’s song, “My Name Is George.”

This Friday, April 7th, is Bandcamp Friday, where Bandcamp waives all their revenue fees for music sales, and turns that money over to the artists. It’s a great day to buy our albums there, though any day is a great day for that!

Keep an eye out for local venues that support live music, and do your best to support them however you can.
